How Spell Boards are Carved

Learn about Spell Boards

  • Spell boards or blessing boards were used in old European cultures as a way to bring spirituality and traditions into their built environments. These symbols were hand-carved by the maker and usually had direct meaning towards the person or family. They would be carved on furniture or directly on the home’s door frame or lintels. This tradition was carried into many public buildings and churches throughout Europe and even into the Americas.

  • Each board is crafted from Linden or Soft Maple and trimmed in Sycamore. All the lumber is locally sourced.

They are painted with milk paint and coated with tung oil as a protective finish.

  • These boards are a limited run item. Once they sell they’re gone.

  • Each board has a unique design. Some elements are repeated, but you can be assured you have a one-of-a-kind.
